Yeovil

The business centre of South Somerset, this thriving market town takes its name from the river Yeo and is home to the bustling Quedam shopping centre, Octagon Theatre, Goldenstones Leisure Centre, Yeovil Recreation Centre, and boasts a multi-screen cinema and ten-pin bowling complex. There are many places to grab a bite to eat and drink ranging from well-known high street brands to lovely local independent artisan traders.

Just on the outskirts of the town centre is the glorious and award winning Yeovil Country Park. This 127 acre park has five main areas all of which have very different characteristics and land features. The landscape varies from Ninesprings which is the most heavily used and accessible section with its network of footpaths and waterways to the Riverside walk which gives the feeling of being away from the hustle and bustle of town as you stroll through woodland following the path of the River Yeo. The park’s popular Ninesprings café is a lovely spot to sit and relax and is dog-friendly too.

For those interested in history and heritage the town’s Somerset Heritage Collection is a must, where fascinating historical artefacts can be viewed (pre-booking essential). Yeovil is known internationally for helicopter manufacture and is the proud home of Yeovil Town Football Club, the Glovers.

Motor sport and car enthusiasts are well served with Haynes International Motor Museum just a short drive away.

There are two railway stations - Pen Mill on the Heart of Wessex Bristol to Weymouth line (with some free parking) and Yeovil Junction on the London Waterloo to Exeter line. Yeovil's green bypass - a footpath and cycleway alongside the River Yeo, connects Pen Mill to the town centre and Country Park.
