Martock

Martock’s thriving community is one of the largest parishes in Somerset and has one of the oldest domestic dwellings, the National Trust's Treasurer's House, as well as an impressive 13th parish church with one of the finest carved tie beam roofs in Somerset and an old grammar school founded in 1661. 

Martock's many attractive buildings are constructed in stone from the nearby Ham Hill. This golden hamstone lends a wonderful mellow warmth to the historic buildings, some of which date back to the medieval period.  The Martock Bean used to be a popular plant in the 16th and 17th centuries and old Martockians are known as 'Beanies'.

The Ash village church was constructed between 1840 and 1887 has a simple tower which was added as a war memorial after the First World War - stating the tower was built "in honour of all those who gave their lives for King and Country."

With a large woodworking centre, hobbies shop, craft gallery, coffee shop and plenty of free parking, Yandles is the perfect choice for the woodworker and somewhere to bring family and friends for a totally unique experience. To the north of the village is Town Tree Nature Gardens Set in the peaceful grounds of Town Tree Farm. A 1.5 mile pathway meanders around a truly unique 22 acre garden, which includes a 7 acre lake, a mock tudor tower and a mix of wild and cultivated plants and ponds.
