Crewkerne
Overview
Crewkerne - an important town since before the Norman Conquest with many fine old buildings and a magnificent 15th century church. Nelson's captain, Sir Thomas Hardy, attended the grammar school which was founded in 1499.
You can discover its history in the Heritage Centre or explore many delightful antique and bookshops with the aid of the Crewkerne Antiques Trail leaflet. The town has some lovely cafes, characterful pubs and the Crewkerne Aqua Centre, a popular indoor swimming pool as well as a well-liked weekly market, brimming with excellent local produce.
If you get the chance, do pop in to Cedrics at nearby Misterton for their award winning produce, especially their cake!
Crewkerne railway station is on the London Waterloo to Exeter line.
