Bruton

Bruton is well known for its rolling countryside, excellent selection of antiques shops and eclectic mix of independent traders. But perhaps more recently, is now firmly on the map as a hub for art and contemporary design and food, boasting award winning restaurants, shops, galleries and fabulous places to stay, attracting visitors from around the globe year round.

It’s no surprise that visitors fall in love with this pretty town, perched on the River Brue with Jacobean almshouses, abbey remains and a famous National Trust dovecote. Quaint narrow alleys - called Bartons - link the High Street with a riverside walk, 15th century Packhorse Bridge and magnificent twin-towered church. The American novelist John Steinbeck lived near here for some months in 1959 and a delightful small museum tells much of the town’s history.

Exhibition space, gallery and garden, Hauser & Wirth Somerset is a draw for many as is the multi-award winning estate, garden and luxury hotel, The Newt in Somerset, located just a short distance outside of Bruton. For those of you seeking adrenaline fuelled adventures, check out multi award winning Mill on the Brue, an outdoor activity centre that runs some great camps and days (prior booking required).
